September 11th is a day that holds significance for many, but young people around the country are working to transform this day of remembrance from tragedy to hope. September 11th is now a national day of service, filling an otherwise painful memory with kindness and good deeds.
Our Hess Academy students rose to the 9/11 Day challenge beautifully, creating “Goodie Bags” for our local service people who dedicate their lives to protecting others. Check out some of these beautiful designs, and the smiles on the recipient’s faces! Thank you to everyone who contributed goodies and helped organize for making this happen.
Acts of service are a wonderful way to build character and responsibility in young people, and we encourage our families to continue to habit at home! Check out this great article about more ways to get young people involved and the potential benefits socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Stay tuned to hear about the other service projects our students are undertaking during Service September to keep these good feelings going!
