We are SO excited to formally introduce STEM into our curriculum at Hess Academy. For those of you who don’t know, STEM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. While STEM has been present in our science curriculum throughout the year, this will be the first year STEM learning gets its own weekly slot.
If your child attended camp this summer with Hess Academy science teacher, Sherry Morton, then they probably enjoyed getting their feet wet with STEM by taking apart machines and programming our own BB8 robot.
Another exciting branch of STEM is STEAM, the “A” standing for “Arts”. Our own Katie Robertson taught a STEAM camp this summer alongside expert Cortney Greene, and the kids had a blast expressing themselves creatively through technology and problem solving like engineers to make their visions come to life. Check out some of the incredible stop motion movies these campers made!
After this small taste, we can’t wait to see the creativity and critical thinking that awaits these students as they engage in our STEM curriculum this year.
