“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”
– Sitting Bull
Thank you to all of our amazing Oglethorpe students and Dr. Suzanne Anastasi who spent this spring semester at Hess Academy. Not only did these college students gain tremendous knowledge about teaching literacy but also learned beside our students in the classrooms. In our final literacy celebration Oglethorpe students presented with Hess students to share the culmination of their work together: reading their own published writing, presenting a reader’s theater performance written by students, sharing images of their hands-on work together in the classroom, and showcasing the debate skills they worked diligently to master. We were blown away by the growth and success of all the students involved.
“The growth of any craft depends on shared practice and honest dialogue among the people who do it. We grow by private trial and error, to be sure — but our willingness to try, and fail, as an individual is severely limited when we are not supported by a community that encourages such risks.”
